When deciding how to start your Priest Leveling Spec, Shadow will be your preferred talent tree. Many players will make the mistake of choosing Holy right off the bat. While it is a very valuable talent tree, Holy is primarily a healing build and very slow for a priest leveling spec. A shadow leveling build is the best choice since you will be dealing damage faster, killing more quickly, and completing quests more efficiently. Shadow also comes with some very handy abilities that help you regen health and mana, decreasing downtime, and further strengthening it as the number 1 priest leveling spec.

Not only are shadow priests effective at leveling, but they make an excellent off-healing class for groups where the main healer isn't pulling their weight, not properly specced, or dies too often. They also have a lot of fun features and utility to add to a group, from silence to fear, mind control (one of my favorites), and group mana regen.
