Cataclysm Mage Leveling Build

With Cataclysm coming shortly and the 4.0 patch coming out tomorrow, the World of Warcraft will be changing forever... and so are your talent trees. Here is a sample Mage Leveling build for Cataclysm. I only have fire completed right now, but I will be updating these posts with each additional patch and talent update. Always know that Blizzard is constantly updating, and these talents are sure to be changed before Cataclysm's release.


4.0 Fire Mage Leveling Build

Beautiful fire... destructor of wood... You get Pyroblast at level 10, Fire Specialization increases the damage of your spells by 25%, and Mastery: Flashburn increases the damage from all your periodic effects by a fair amount.

  1. 2/2 Improved Fire Blast - more range and more crits, all in one.
  2. 2/2 Master of Elements - your crits refund mana
  3. 1/3 Burning Soul - reduces the casting time lost from attacks against you.
  4. 3/3 Ignite - Your crits cause the target to burn for a short time
  5. 2/3 Fire power - A bit more fire damage and an exploding orb
  6. Blastwave - Area Effect burnination
  7. Hot Streak- spell crits have a chance to make yor next Pyroblast instant and free.
  8. 2/2 Cauterize - shots that would kill you, don't
  9. 3/3 Fire Power
  10. Combustion
  11. 2/2 Blazing Speed - Chance for hits against you to increase your speed and dispell all movement impairing efects.
  12. Firestarter - Your Molten Armor spell allows you to cast scorch while moving
  13. 1/2 Improved Hot streak - any time you crit twice in a row with your non-periodic spells you have a chance to trigger Hot Streak
  14. Dragon's Breath - Shoots flames in a cone and stuns targets
  15. 3/3 Molten Fury - increases damage against low health targets
  16. 1/2 Improved Flamestrike - Reduces Flamestrike casting time and give Blastwave a chance to trigger Flamestrike
  17. 3/3 Critical Mass - Living Bomb and Flame Orb do more damage, Pyroblast and Scorch cause your opponent to become a bit more vulnerable to spell damage
  18. 2/2 Pyromaniac - Increases spell haste by a small amount if three or more targets are suffereing from your periodic damage
  19. Living Bomb - Your target takes periodic damage, then explodes, damaging up to three nearby targets
  20. You can now take talents from the other trees
  21. 3/3 Piercing Ice - Increases crit chance of spells by 3%
  22. 3/3 Netherwind Presence - increases spell haste by 3%
  23. 3/3 Arcane Concentration - Chance for your next spell to cost no mana
  24. 1/3 Improved Blink - Increases your movement speed after casting Blink

Fire Spells:

  1. Fire Blast - Instant spell for medium damage
  2. Fireball - Unchanged. Fire damage at long range
  3. Flame Orb - A red orb of flame moves awy from you and attacks the nearest target.
  4. Flamestrike - Unchanged, area blast
  5. Frostfire bolt - Long range frostfire bolt, slows the target
  6. Molten Armor - Increases crit chance, reduces chance of being crit, causes some damage to attacker
  7. Scorch - A little less damage and a little faster cast

This is just one of many routes you can choose while leveling your mage in Cataclysm. This Cataclysm mage leveling spec sacrifices some damage for utility, defensive ability, and mana efficiency.
